This Gibson Les Paul Gold Top (SN#7 2543) was made in the Gibson factory, Kalamazoo, MI in 1957. The Les Paul Model began with its introduction in 1952. There were several refinements and advancements in the design over the years, one of the most significant being the introduction of the humbucking pickup (in 1957 on the standard model). This addition is what really set the Les Paul model on an even more historic course.

The Patent Applied For or “PAF” humbucking pickups became the sound of Rock n Roll and are a leading factor in the value of the later (1957-1960) Gibson Les Pauls. This first year, PAF equipped Les Paul Gold Top is in very good condition with the less common black, plastic appointments. The finish shows light weather checking on the top, back and sides. The back of the neck shows some play wear and signs of capo use. With the exception of a few possible touched solder joints and a hidden, extra screw hole under the jack plate, this Les Paul appears all original. The factory original nut shows the lacquer buildup on the sides. The tuners are original with no evidence of others having ever been installed. The beautiful, dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard is well played and the factory original frets, while exhibiting a moderate amount of play wear in the lower chording area, play incredibly well with low action. The factory original early (pre-sticker) PAF pickups measure a clear 7.1k Ohms in the neck position and a full 7.35k in the bridge position. The (rarer) black pickguard, pickup rings, poker chip and jack plate as well as the switch tip appear original to this instrument. The guitar weighs in at 8.8 lbs, and comes with its original 4-latch brown Lifton case.

This 1957 Les Paul has an extremely comfortable, full, rounded and perfectly straight neck, combined with the well-balanced weight and clear, open sounding PAF pickups making it truly a joy to hold and play.
